So this is nearly it. This is last week's playlist. And tonight is the final show. Next Thursday I'll be in Seattle. The thursday after that I'll be in Memphis. After that it's DC. And then I'll be in Nashville starting my new life. It's going to be weird. I hope you'll spend one last show with me. It'd mean the world to me.
So we're almost there. Tonight is the second to last radio show. Last night, as I planned it in the extended stay motel I'm staying in, I started to get pretty sad about it. And I realized there is NO way I'm getting through my final show next week without crying. I guess that's what happens when you leave a thing you've done for 13 years.

I hope you guys tune in next week. And request things. It'd be nice to have a good audience for the last one.

Brill Building Pop refers to a style of Pop music that began in the late 1950s. The name Brill Building comes from a block of music publishing houses in New York City, where teams of professional writers worked to create the music, however, music in this style emanated from other places as well. It had a variety of influences including Rock & Roll, Rhythm & Blues and Tin Pan Alley pop, however, it was far more sophisticated and polished, as it often featured orchestras and large accompanying bands. Many of the most successful acts in this genre were teams of a singer and a producer. Brill Building fell out of favor when the British Invasion began, but it continues to influence popular music to this day.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3823257739752029010.post-12352328824719848552015-08-10T09:02:00.001-07:002015-08-10T09:02:12.229-07:00Playlist for 8-6-15 (Andy sub edition)

Trancecore is a genre of music mixing aspects of Melodic Metalcore, Trance, Pop Punk, Synthpop and sometimes other genres as well.

At its heart, trancecore features the same type of guitar riffs and drumming found in melodic metalcore as well as its usual inclusion of both harsh and clean vocals. The harsh vocals are similar to Metalcore, melodic metalcore, or Death Metal styles. A simple verse/chorus arrangement for the songs is also common.

Many things separate trancecore from the genres that influence it. The most noticeable difference is the inclusion of trance sections throughout the majority of the songs, including times when trance is the main focus and the Metal elements have disappeared completely. A large portion of trancecore bands use autotuned vocals prominently during choruses and other parts of their songs. Even if autotune isn't used, clean vocals generally mimic the style of pop punk vocals. Finally, trancecore bands tend to include more breakdowns in their songs and make them the focus more often than melodic metalcore.

Caribbean music genres are diverse. They are each syntheses of African, European, Indian and Indigenous influences, largely created by descendants of African slaves (see Afro-Caribbean music), along with contributions from other communities (such as Indo-Caribbean music). Some of the styles to gain wide popularity outside of the Caribbean include bouyon, cadence-lypso, calypso, compas, Jing ping, punta, reggae, reggaeton, soca, and zouk. Caribbean is also related to Central American and South American music.

The complex deep origins of Caribbean music are best understood if you have knowledge of Western Hemisphere colonial immigration patterns, human trafficking patterns, the resulting melting pot of people each of its nations & territories, and thus resulting influx of original musical influences. Colonial Caribbean ancestors were predominately from West Africa, West Europe, and India. Twentieth and 21st century immigrants have also come from Taiwan, China, and the Middle East. In addition, neighboring Latin American and North American (particularly hip hop and pop music) countries have naturally influenced Caribbean culture and vice versa. One must understand these influences to have a deep understanding of the resulting Caribbean music that reflects the culture of the people. Although there are musical commonalities among Caribbean nations and territories, the variation in immigration patterns and colonial hegemony tend to parallel the variations in musical influence. Language barriers (Spanish, English, French, and Dutch) are one of the strongest influences.

The divisions between Caribbean music genres are not always well-defined, because many of these genres share common relations and have influenced each other in many ways and directions. For example, the Jamaican mento style has a long history of conflation with Trinidadian calypso. Elements of calypso have come to be used in mento, and vice versa, while their origins lie in the Afro-Caribbean culture, each uniquely characterized by influences from the Shango and Shouters religions of Trinidad and the Kumina spiritual tradition of Jamaica.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3823257739752029010.post-40326076082447323902015-06-17T21:36:00.002-07:002015-06-17T21:36:47.123-07:00Playlist for 6-11-15

Power electronics was originally coined by William Bennett as part of the sleevenotes to the Whitehouse album Psychopathia Sexualis, and is related to the early Industrial Records scene but later became more identified with noise music. It consists of static, screeching waves of feedback, analogue synthesizers making sub-bass pulses or high frequency squealing sounds, and screamed, distorted, often hateful and offensive lyrics. Deeply atonal, there are no conventional melodies or rhythmsUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3823257739752029010.post-70738312824665299972015-06-11T13:37:00.000-07:002015-06-11T13:37:25.693-07:00Bang your head against the stage
An overarching style of Death Metal with a few separate sub-styles within it. Overall, though, the music can be defined wholly as death metal with the extremity factor turned up in multiple ways. Triggered blastbeats, Grindcore influences and chunky, fast riffing characterize a good number of bands playing brutal death metal, but there are some bands, as early as Suffocation who emphasize "slam" riffs which are often featured in breakdowns. This type of riff is often noted as being almost purely rhythmic, syncopated with the drumming or general pattern of the song and muted for maximum heaviness, though these elements don't control the majority of the music like in Slam Death Metal. Bands playing brutal death metal are often known to write shorter songs, emphasizing how much damage can be done in a brief period of time, though some also write longer, complex songs with a multitude of different, often slow, breakdowns and compositional techniques.

The two main styles seem to be a technical death style with slam-sounding breakdowns and grinding riffs as the aforementioned Suffocation did on their earliest material and a complex, chaotic and constantly shifting yet unwaveringly fast and oppressive style like Deeds of Flesh. Most bands play in one of these styles or combine them with their own variegated influences to produce their own sound.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3823257739752029010.post-91600552103595469682015-06-04T12:19:00.002-07:002015-06-04T12:19:32.091-07:00Playlist for 5-28-15

Industrial hip hop is an Experimental Hip Hop genre that uses Industrial Music beats and sounds. The production style is generally very dissonant, featuring atonal Noise and loud, distorted drums. Vocals are usually more aggressive than typical hip hop and are sometimes shouted.

Industrial hip hop originated in the late 1980s, inspired by several attempts to combine industrial music with Hardcore Hip Hop and Dub. Public Enemy's intensity and use of unconventional noise elements inspired a darker form of hip hop. Mark Stewart (of The Pop Group) worked with the house band of Sugar Hill Records to blend industrial with elements of dub on As the Veneer of Democracy Starts to Fade. In 1988, The Beatnigs pioneered the genre on their debut album. The next year, the Sugar Hill Records band collaborated with Tackhead to blend industrial with Funk Rock and dub. Consolidated and The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy were also influential on the genre's development. Some contemporary practitioners of the genre employ more Electronic elements in their music, from genres such as Illbient and Glitch Hop.
