Danger! Poison!
Yuck's self-titled debut album on Fat Possum Records is a) really good, and b) really good in a lot of different ways. These Brit kids have clearly ingested a whole slew of 90's rock bands, and have songs that channel the likes of Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins, Galaxie 500, Yo La Tengo, and basically any other band who knows how to use a guitar. There's been a lot of criticism levied against them for being derivitive and such, but that really only goes so far as to how a band sounds. You can ape any band as much as you want and it won't help you write a good song. And Yuck has written several really good songs. The fact that there are echoes of other rad bands should really only encourage you to check this band out more.
