Self-empowered to shoot a dude in the face

So, Mountain Goats are rad. Charles Bronson is rad. Mountain Goats writing a song about Charles Bronson ends up being extra rad. And, weirdly, super positive and encouraging. Like, I can see this song ending up on a lot of "power of positive thinking" self-esteem boosting mixes. Good advice.

"And whatever they say on your page 3 mention, focus on the parts that make you feel good. Be grateful for the attention."

You gotta stay positive, d00ds. I know it's cliche but it works. XOX

Tuesday morning psych-kraut

The Psychic Paramount's latest album, "II," is a tasty little chunk of Lightning Bolt/Can/Don Caballero. I'm not sure I could listen to it all the time, but I'm betting these dudes are super rad live. In fact, I told the fine folks at Acrobatics Everyday to try and book 'em at UCI. Then we'll go. And totally rock out together.

Hey folks,

So, to quote an excellent band, "the preacher-man says it's the end of time." In light of the imminent apocalypse, I decided to do a radio show of end-of-the-world tunes for you. My aim is to hit this miss

Well, I swear I seen that girl before
Like she walked straight outa the book of Leviticus
But they can stone me with stones I don't care
Just as long as I can get to kiss
Those gypsy lips! Gypsy lips!
....
The Lord is my shepard I shall not want
The Lord is my shepard I shall not want
But he leadeth me like a lamb to the lips
Of the mouth of the valley of the shadow of death
I am his rod and his staff
I am his sceptre and shaft
And she is heaven and hell
At whose gates I ain't been delivered
I'm gunna give the gates a shove
Hard on for love hard on for love
Hard on for love hard on for love

God damn, Mr. Cave.

Sunday Morning on a Saturday night

In case you're unaware, Beck got a couple of his musician-buddies together to do cover versions of full albums, calling the project Record Club. The first one they tackled was the Velvet Underground's classic "The Velvet Underground & Nico." Dig it.

Cosmic journeys!

The Woodsman album "Rare Forms" is pretty good. There are some choice jams on there. Though, for my money, you're better off downloading their super amazing Daytrotter session. That's free, anyway, and all three songs are boss as hell. THAT IS VERY BOSS.

And remember, KUCI's fund drive is in full swing! Please call in tomday during my show to donate! 949-824-5824. 949-UCI-KUCI

Great moments in bad sketch comedy

So, today I learned that the Replacements were banned from Saturday Night Live due to their "state of inebriation" and Paul Westerberg saying the word "fuck." I found a video, and sure enough, he says "fuck," but they don't strike me as terribly intoxicated.

What a mess by mmr421

Anyway, this made me want to look up other bands who performed on SNL. And I found this great performance by DEVO in '78.

Devo - Satisfaction (SNL, 14 October 1978) by zesuisla

Just wanted to share.

And I hope you guys are saving up some money. Remember, KUCI's fund drive is in full swing! Please call in tomorrow during my show to donate! 949-824-5824. 949-UCI-KUCI

No seriously

This Odd Future shit is rad. Unless you're not a fan of morally reprehensible hip hop.
